Our full day in Fortuna is usually considered a “water day”, as we enjoy the La Fortuna waterfall, kayaking in Lake Arenal, and a good soak at the Baldi hot springs. This year, we had the added water of frequent downpours! Thankfully, our group planned to spend the day soaking, so our extra coating of “liquid sunshine” didn’t dampen our plans. Our 5 buses rotated through the above adventures, frequently crossing paths, sharing stories and warnings. In addition to this adventure, our group split up with half the students visiting a local farm and the other half exploring the town of La Fortuna. Both groups had a great experience and we are exhausted at the end of a fun day. Although this was just our second full day of the trip, our students have grown immensely in their abilities as world travelers. Already, they laugh less when they speak the language, ask questions more, and seem to take the inevitable hiccups of travel in stride.
Tomorrow, our group will hit the road once again, traveling to either Monteverde (buses 1, 2, and 3) or Sarapiqui (buses 4 and 5), as neither town has enough lodging to support our group at one time. Both areas will offer the students a chance to explore pristine rain forests via hikes and, more adventurously, via zip line. Having experienced both regions in years past, I assure you neither location disappoints and our students’ experiences will be very similar. The hotels and experiences in these locations will likely be the most “rustic” our students will enjoy on the trip, but they are now well prepared to get outside their comfort zones.
I apologize in advance for a slightly abbreviated post. Hopefully the photos below paint a picture of the fun of the day. Pura Vida and here’s looking forward to more fun tomorrow!
PS - These pictures come from a wide range of chaperones, but I know we haven’t captured everyone. Please have your student send me any pictures they would like included in the blog if you haven’t seen your child just yet.
