Monteverde and Sarapiqui

Our buses left La Fortuna this morning on their paths to Monteverde (buses 1, 2, and 3) and Sarapiqui (buses 4 and 5). The Arenal Volcano was sadly still hidden in the clouds as we left, but we could just barely catch a glimpse of its classic conical shape as we drove out of town. While I am disappointed our students never got a clear view of the impressive volcano, they were too busy sharing memories and asking questions about our next stop to notice. Such is the joy of traveling with young adults!

As today was a “travel day”, our groups spent most of the day on the road to their next locations with strategically planned breaks and opportunities to explore. While different buses had slightly different experiences, my bus stopped at a fantastic, oddly remote German bakery and took some time to explore the town of Santa Elena in Monteverde. About half our group chose to partake in an optional night hike, where we saw all kinds of critters one would typically avoid back home.

As usual, here is an assortment of pictures from the chaperones from the day’s adventures (and a few great ones from yesterday that I had to include).
